 The effect of stress on the skin and ways to fix it



Stress produces a whole host of responses from the mind and body, in case you missed it. Maybe we'll feel nervous. Maybe our muscles get strong. And when we feel stressed out, we're more vulnerable to getting sick (because that's what you really need, right?). But our skin is often influenced by stress: it can cause us to break out, feel itchy, or even look older than we are.

The stress hormone cortisol will send your oil glands into overdrive, clogging up your pores ASAP, even in adulthood. Acne: Breakouts are not only for puberty. Another way that tension causes blemishes? It ramps up cravings for sugary, fatty foods, which, if consumed in large amounts, can also compromise your complexion.


Hives:

 Beyond the brain, emotional stress will take a toll. Beware of itchy, red welts that can carry stress to the surface of the skin.

Rosacea:

 Your skin will still respond to feeling overwhelmed, even if you're stressed for a good reason (Wedding planning! Work promotion!). Emotional tension is only one of the many factors that can exacerbate this common skin condition that causes flushing and irregular skin tone around the nose and cheeks.


Psoriasis: 

For people with these itchy, red, scaly skin patches, stress is a vicious cycle because it can make symptoms worse, and getting a psoriasis flare-up can be stress-provoking. Uh. Ugh.


Eczema:

 If you have eczema, stay calm and don't let concerns get the best of you, because it can cause this itchy rash to flare up because of stress.
